This feature has initially been used worldwide to provide call services for inmates to communicate with their loved ones. This is where calls initiated by inmates are paid for by the recipients after a prompt. In Safaricom’s case, the person receiving the reverse call will receive a voice prompt asking them to key in “1” to accept the charges of the reverse call. The cost of the call will be equivalent to the receiver’s normal call cost. At the moment this service is only available for Safaricom to Safaricom calls. This service is also not available for roaming and international calls and Safaricom says it has no plans of extending this service to other carriers. It might be worth noting that Safaricom already has the “please call me” service that allows customers to send upto 5 free SMS by dialing 130Phone number# to request a callback. With these features, please call me and reverse call, Safaricom is looking to cover all its bases by offering users who are low on credit a way to still reach out to family and friends, something that students can no doubt, appreciate.
